Basement Renovation by Calgary Interior Designer

We met this client a few years ago when she was ready to renovate her kitchen, eating area and main bathroom. She’d been living with an unfinished concrete basement that had succumbed to the 2013 Calgary floods and was ready for us to redesign it when she contacted us last fall. She wanted a hang out space to enjoy with her adult daughters where they could watch TV and a quiet place to sit by the fireplace. We truly started with a blank concrete box before the basement renovation…

This was after a new concrete floor was poured… before this, it was even more desperate for some love!

It is a pretty dramatic difference! It is so bright yet super warm and cozy! We designed it with a slight nod to the rec rooms of the 1960’s – not flat out MidCentury Modern, but with a few details here and there. The chair, patterned cushions, cabinet hardware and some of the accessories recall another time yet work with the updated furniture and modern style of the room.

That adorable striped chair? We had it shipped from the States and recovered in a really fun striped fabric. You may recall that this client loves pink from the previous project we worked on with her so we were happy to add more pink downstairs. It turned out so beautifully and the stunning floral paintings from Tresa Gibson were the perfect addition to complete the room.
